Our History

James Jensen bought the property in 1928 from John Jensen. It was at that time that Mr. Jensen began constructing the mill itself. The cider press was bought from a cider mill in Geneva, NY. The press and hammermill were built in 1883 and is an original. The mill itself was finished in 1930. Mr. Jensen added a washing machine from 1910, which was used all the way until 2004! He ran the cider mill until 1976 when he sold it to Eastman Beers.

Mr. Beers covered some of the older wood on the press with stainless steel, and also was the one that added the donut machine! Mr. Beers sold the cider mill to Harold Wager in 1977.

Mr. Wager added the front porch and also a loading dock in the back. He also enclosed the conveyor belt, which transports the apples to the hammermill, and enclosed a room within the mill to make into a cooler space. All of these modifications and additions were completed in 1978.

In 1993 Craig Wager purchased the cider mill from his dad, Harold. Craig added a larger cooler unit behind the cider mill for cold apple storage once the apples are picked off the trees in 1999. He also added on the addition that is now the kitchen area, and closed in the front porch entrance some. Additionally, he bought the ultraviolet machine into the mill which aided in the process of cider sterilization without deterring its natural taste.

Craig sold the mill to his son Geoff Wager in 2020. Geoff and his wife Kaylee have many plans for the place, however his first addition to the family business is a slushie machine, for cider slushies! In 2022 we released our first version of Wagers Smashed Hard Cider. In 2023 we have enclosed the front porch to expand our existing storefront and we opened with three flavor profiles of the smashed cider. (An original – dryer version, “The Farmers Daughter” which is coined to be more sweet and third “Spiced Backroad Shenanigans” which notes subtle hints of cinnamon flavor. We are excited for what’s to come!
